New Green Security Appliances

WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. has introduced a new range of e-Series security appliances Firebox Edge, Firebox X Core and Firebox X Peak. The new e-Series hardware platforms enhance performance, increase port density and add further security functionality. The products are all RoHS compliant in line with the latest European legislation.

WatchGuards Firebox X Edge line provides comprehensive security integrating packet firewall, VPN, and URL filtering for robust network security in a high value package. With enhanced configurability, the new Firebox X Edge e-Series features inter-office traffic prioritisation and bandwidth management to ensure traffic is handled based on its business criticality and gives small business the ability to do more with their network.

When deployed in a remote or branch office, the Firebox X Edge configurations can be centrally and remotely managed, using WatchGuard System Manager, to ensure security policies are uniform across multiple locations. In addition, WatchGuards drag and drop VPN creation capabilities simplify setup and reduce maintenance time for the branch office connections.

The new Firebox X Peak model is WatchGuards top of the line UTM appliances. Offering true zero-day protection, the new Peak models offer networking features which will support complex customer environments. This range offers solutions for small, single-site networks central sites that serve as branch office VPN or mobile user VPN configurations and for mid-sized organisations with more demanding LAN infrastructure and VPN requirements. It now comes with eight Gigabit Ethernet ports. Also available is a Fibre-interface model. Performance and capacity has been doubled with up to 2.0 Gbps for firewall traffic and 600 Mbps for VPN traffic.

All new Peak e-Series models ship with Fireware Pro as the standard appliance software. Fireware Pro now enables anti-virus scanning on HTTP traffic, extending AV protection to Web servers and clients. The new appliance software also includes enhanced WAN failover capabilities to increase uptime and provide support for Dynamic DNS, which, along with added traffic management functions, can increase network flexibility and efficiency.

The new Firebox X Core and Peak models now offer more ports and increased firewall and VPN performance. The Firebox X Core is positioned for SMBs and is shipped complete with Fireware, a streamlined version of WatchGuards advanced appliance software, and is license key upgradeable to Fireware Pro. Memory has been doubled on both product lines to increase data processing capacity. The Firebox X Core comes complete with Fireware 8.3 with the option to upgrade to Fireware Pro should the company require.
