MegaPath, a provider of Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions and other managed IP services to US businesses, has announced the availability of SecureConnect, a network-based Unified Threat Management (UTM) solution that helps businesses safeguard information assets.

SecureConnect protects business information and systems from both internal and external threats through the use of Attack Mitigation, Anti-Malware, Web Filtering and VPN capabilities. It provides a complement to MegaPath's MPLS VPN, Internet connectivity and remote access services.

According to IDC, UTM security systems will comprise a majority of the USD3.45 billion combined firewall/VPN and UTM appliance market by 2008, outpacing traditional stand alone firewall/VPN appliances, with 58 per cent of the overall share. MegaPath's SecureConnect UTM services allow organizations to deploy a turnkey solution that protects against the increasing sophistication, proliferation and severity of security threats, while providing the expertise needed to protect information. The end-to-end solution also helps organizations comply with regulatory and legislative security mandates, such as PCI/CISP, HIPAA, GLB and SOX.

The offering consists of the following Managed Security Services:

• LI>Attack Mitigation - This Firewall and Intrusion Prevention Service can be deployed separately or in tandem for complete, wire-speed protection against internal and external threats such as worms, viruses, denial of services and other blended attacks that easily pass through traditional firewalls.
  
• Anti-Malware - This Anti-Virus and Spam Tracker service is designed to minimize network disruptions from virus and worm outbreaks and improve user productivity with real-time detection and management of spam. The Anti-Virus service provides multi-layered network-based and client-based malware protection with signature and rule-based blocking to quarantine viruses and isolate infected files. The Spam Tracker service identifies spam from well known spammers characterized by real-time black lists and can be easily configured to send all incoming spam to an end user's bulk email box.
  
• Web Filtering - This Content Filtering and White List/ Black List service is designed to help organizations let their employees leverage the Internet to be more productive, while enforcing acceptable Internet usage policies. With a URL database of over 100 million rated websites with 76 categorized ratings, the Content Filtering service allows an organization to govern which types of Web content employees can access, eliminating inappropriate use of company resources and liability from illegal activities. The White List/Black List feature further allows customers to regulate which specific websites are and are not accessible by employees.
  
• Virtual Private Networks (VPN) - This remote access VPN service can be used in conjunction with MegaPath's MPLS VPN and mobility services to enable organizations to cost-effectively and securely connect remote workers, branch offices and retail locations to corporate information and resources. MegaPath technicians handle every detail in the design, procurement, and installation of the VPN to provide a custom security solution for enterprises of any size.

MegaPath SecureConnect UTM Managed Security Services include SecureConnect Care, a suite of online resources and a team of security professionals dedicated to ensure the security and continuity of each customer's business operations. MegaPath's Network and Security Operations Centers (NOC/SOC) are staffed 24/7 to quickly address issues and respond to customer requests for service modifications. A Threat Response Team continuously monitors for network vulnerabilities and develops appropriate detection signatures when a threat has been identified.
