Enterasys Networks has promoted Leon Woo to executive vice president and chief technology officer. Woo, who had been executive vice president of engineering since 2003, will focus on the long-term product and technology direction of the company.
Woo will work closely with Chris Crowell, the company's new executive vice president of research and development, who is responsible for the company's engineering activities.
Woo has more than 25 years of network industry experience, including several executive leadership positions. He joined Enterasys in 2003 when it acquired Tenor Networks, a leading developer of IP/MPLS-based solutions, where Woo was co-founder and chief technology officer. Before starting Tenor, Woo was a member of the operating committee and the vice president of research and development at 3Com's Switching Division.
He also was a co-founder of Synernetics, a pioneer and market leader in the Ethernet switching marketplace. At Synernetics he was vice president of research and development, heading up hardware and software development activities. Woo came to Synernetics from Apollo Computer where he was a director of engineering in the networking group. He has held similar positions with Aetna Telecommunications and Raytheon Corporation.
Woo holds bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has published several technical papers and holds a number of patents.
