McAfee, Inc. has appointed Stuart McClure, SVP Global Threats, head of McAfee AVERT Labs, their anti-virus and vulnerability research organisation. In this role, McClure will drive coordinated research and analysis of emerging threats to better protect both home and enterprise users.
McClure is widely recognised for his extensive knowledge of security products and his insight into pressing information security issues. He is a well-published and acclaimed security visionary with nearly two decades of experience in the space.
Prior to its acquisition by McAfee, McClure was president and chief technology officer of Foundstone. Foundstone helps large enterprises and US government agencies to manage and mitigate risk so they can protect their most important digital assets. In this role, McClure helped grow annual revenues by over 100 per cent every year since the company's inception in 1999 and before its acquisition in 2004.
In 1999, McClure co-authored "Hacking Exposed: Network Security Secrets and Solutions." The book became the best selling computer security book ever, with more than 500,000 copies sold. It has been translated into 26 languages and is the number four selling computer book overall. Additionally, McClure has co-authored "Hacking Exposed: Windows 2000" by Osborne, McGraw-Hill and "Web Hacking: Attacks and Defense" by Addison-Wesley.
Prior to Foundstone, McClure held a variety of leadership positions in security and IT management with Ernst & Young's National Security Profiling Team, as an industry analyst with InfoWorld's Test Centre, as Director of IT with both state and local California government, with his own IT consultancy, and with the IT department of University of Colorado, Boulder. McClure holds a bachelors degree in Psychology and Philosophy, with an emphasis in Computer Science Applications from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He also holds the following certifications: ISC2's CISSP, Novell's CNE, and Check Point's CCSE.
