MPEG-4 (AVC) Smart Video Encoder System
31 Oct 03:41

A new video encoder system introduced by Red Prime intelligently converges camera-based surveillance, MPEG-4 advanced video coding (AVC) and internet-enabled signal transport for improved performance, remote management and downstream image mining and motion detection.

The initial product, RPT-1000, is the first H.264 (URL below) compliant network appliance to offer multiple channels, intelligent encoding, IP transport and browser- and windows-based client monitoring software for remote configuration and management.

Standard and digital surveillance cameras with or without audio provide system input, and the system's highly compressed real time image streams at 30 frames/second (full 4CIF - four times Common Interchange Format - URL to standard below) drive browser-based monitors anywhere on the Internet via IP transport with remote configuration and management controlled by the RPT ViewManager software. System integrators, VARs and OEMs are the target market.

H.264 compression reduces storage by 30 per cent. The basic RPT-1000 produces four channels of high resolution real-time video that dramatically improves human and computer-mediated interaction with the imagery. The cost per-camera node or Internet link is established by the software management requirements, whether a wired, wireless or optical transport is used, and whether additional peripheral features (such as sensors and alarms) are needed. The more cameras per encoder, the lower the cost per channel for cost-sensitive applications.

The RPT-1000 is the first product in a line designed to scale to 64 channels in a single chassis. It is suited to video surveillance in current analog and digital camera environments for existing and new applications around the globe, with NTSC and PAL support. It thus provides a migration path where legacy (analog) hardware can be accommodated today while higher performance digital video over IP may be retrofitted in the future. Consistent with an all-digital real time surveillance ideology, the RPT architecture supports encryption, hardening and network-attached storage.
