Seoul was the main source of global malware during September, with twice as much being released from the city than anywhere else in the world, according to managed security company, Network Box. The companys security responses blocked more than a million viruses, worm and Trojans daily, the majority of which originated in Eastern Asian countries, with Korea, China and Hong Kong topping the charts. Last month (August) saw Beijing, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur heading the list.
Seoul in Korea accounted for 16 per cent of the viruses released during September, with Beijing (China) second with 8 per cent and Quarry Bay (Hong Kong) third with 6 per cent.
The main source of spam was Beijing, which accounted for 8 per cent of all spam released. Madrid (Spain) was second with 4 per cent and Warsaw (Poland) third with 3.5 per cent.
September saw the same worms dominating the charts as August, with the Zafi.b, NetSky.q and Bagle.mail representing over 50 per cent of all worms blocked by Network Box globally. These three have been the most virulent worms seen for the past three months.
The Small.coc Trojan has again topped the charts, accounting for 77 per cent of all Trojans. It has been the most dominant Trojan seen since its release in March.
