The first ISP-level gateway to offer compliance with the UK government's recommendations on child protection is available from security specialist, Crisp Thinking. The company is a new member of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and has incorporated IWF list filtering into its Child Protection Gateway (CPG).
The system is designed to be installed by ISPs and provides a control and reporting module for parents. Unlike PC software currently offered by many ISPs, the CPG cannot be circumvented by tech-savvy children, supports multiple internet access devices in each household and offers multiple protection technologies within a single gateway product.
The IWF works with UK Government departments such as the Home Office and the Department of Trade and Industry and has created its database for filtering child-unfriendly web sites, including images of child sexual abuse, incitement to racial hatred and criminally obscene content. The Government has stated it wishes to see all UK ISPs block access to sites on the IWF list by the end of 2007. Crisp's product can handling Gigabit line speeds.
