SafeGuard Easy, a hard disk encryption solution, has been awarded the FIPS 140-2 Level 1 security certificate by the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) of the US Department of Commerce.
FIPS 140-2 is one of the worlds leading and most rigorous security standards and the benchmark used by many governmental organisations and companies to select strong IT security solutions. Multinational banks and financial corporations focus in particularly on this globally recognised quality standard when ascertaining which product they should invest in. For non-military US authorities and their suppliers, FIPS certification is the basic specification required when choosing an encryption technology product.
The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 describes the IT security requirements of the US government authorities in terms of encryption technology. In order to achieve the NIST standard, SafeGuard Easy was successfully tested in 11 categories including Design Assurance, Cryptographic Key Management and Self-Tests.
The product transparently and automatically encrypts and decrypts all data stored in and used on PCs, notebooks and servers. The FIPS 140-2 certificate is now the fifth international security certificate that Utimaco has received for SafeGuard Easy (including Common Criteria - Level EAL3, VS-NfD, Restreint UE, NATO Restricted). SafeGuard Easy is listed on the NIST website under ID certificate number 704.
