IM File Transfer Blocking Filter
03 Aug 11:19

Aladdin Knowledge Systems has announced that its Aladdin eSafe gateway-based content security solution now offers features that allow organizations to block file sharing in Instant Message (IM) applications.

IM file transfers stand as a fast-growing threat, serving as one of the major vulnerabilities in organizations Internet security. Phishing attacks, spam, spyware, viruses and worms are now commonly transferred through seemingly harmless IM use within the enterprise.

eSafe's AppliFilter allows organizations to continue using convenient text messaging applications while gaining assurance that potentially dangerous file transfers are blocked. With the deployment of new filter rules, organizations gain protection through identification and blocking features that halt the transfer of files that may contain malicious code, pirated content or confidential data. AppliFilter assesses ICQ/AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, Windows Messenger and Yahoo Messenger traffic at the gateway, identifying IM protocols while in transit. eSafe can also block Skype, a popular IP telephony and instant messaging application considered to be a security breach in many organizations.
