Nominet UK, the Oxford-based domain name registry has announced the appointment of Bob Gilbert as Chairman of the company. He replaces Willie Black, the founder of Nominet, who left the company in December 2004.
Until he retired from private practice last year, Bob Gilbert was a company law specialist and Deputy Senior Partner of Wragge & Co, the Midlands based law firm. He remains a consultant to the company as well as continuing to hold a number of non-executive Chairmanships of publicly quoted companies.
He has had a long and distinguished career at Wragge & Co, joining the company in 1972 and becoming its youngest ever partner at the age of 25. During his 33 years with the company he has been actively involved in most aspects of company and commercial law as well as new business development and acting as Liaison Partner with many City institutions.
He is married with two sons and is a keen participant in historic motorsport and also chairs the Government's Motorsport Development Board.
Nominet UK is the central registry for all Internet domain names ending in .uk. Its purpose is the careful and impartial management of this central database, providing stability, security and accessibility for all users of .uk domain names. Nominet is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee.
