Small Business Wi-Fi Security

Periodik Labs has released Elektron 1.2, the latest version of its software for securing small business Wi-Fi networks. The software brings enterprise-level Wi-Fi security to businesses without a full time IT staff. The new release adds support for Apple's latest Intel-based servers by providing a Universal Binary.

Elektron provides RADIUS authentication services to WPA Enterprise capable wireless access points, including popular hardware from manufacturers like Apple, Linksys, D-Link, Cisco, and Netgear. WPA Enterprise is the standard specified by the Wi-Fi Alliance for the strongest available wireless network security. Elektron is the first non-proprietary server solution to bring WPA Enterprise security to small businesses.

This release is the first version of Elektron available as a Universal Binary, Apple's technology for providing applications that run natively on both Intel and PowerPC Macs. The release precedes the first shipments of the recently announced Intel-based Xserves. Elektron has also been updated to provide enhanced compatibility with Windows XP clients.

Elektron contains support for the latest Wi-Fi security standards, including PEAP and TTLS. The program is compatible with the Wi-Fi client software built into Mac OS X 10.3 and later and Windows XP. No additional software is necessary for clients using either of these platforms.
